Before trying to take a picture with your iPhone, be sure that there's nothing blocking your lense such as a smudge or your own finger.
Open the Camera app. (You can also open the iPhone Camera by tapping the camera icon in the Control Center, or by swiping or pressing the icon on the Lock screen.)
Aim at what you want to take a picture of. It's best to hold your phone upright as you normally would, but you can also tilt it on its side.
Above the white shutter button are options that can change how the photo will look, you can scroll through them, but staying on Photo is good for a quick picture.
At the top are camera functions such as Flash, Timer, and adjustments like white balance. If you're in a well-lit place, you can wait until later to explore these options. Also Read:10 Best Photo Collage Apps for iPhone/iPad to Create Photo Collages 2019

To the right of the white shutter button is Reverse Camera. This turns the camera around if you want to take a photo facing you, like for a selfie.
When you're ready to take a photo, tap the white shutter button. You can also press on the iPhone's volume buttons to take the photo.
After the photo is taken, you'll see a smaller image on the lower left. Tap it to open Photos to see the picture you just took.
